Questions and Data

There is some residual magic in the control room surfaces but something blocking its flow.

High powered clerics may be abler to raise beings well past the normal constraints

What happened to souls during the low magic times?

Behind the Aerie is a much bigger graveyard that contains the large number of people who died during the crash

Mount Ascension is where the gods ascended. This is where the Lich Queen was trying to reach at the point of the fall. She who Sleeps on Roofs was instructed by the Son to allow the undead onto Mount Ascension. It is likely that the Son was looking for another ascended being to balance the pantheon. Because this was blocked, he was forced to destroy the Tercera to maintain his own sanity.

Redactionists are holding knowledge to disseminate if world was in imminent danger. The suppression treaty the treaty of Pendaran.

The Swords of the Seasons

Each sword contains the soul of one of the beings who ascended to the pantheon of Haven.

During the demon wars (before the previous Exodus) all 13 adventurers created phylacteries for their souls in swords.

Peter Kovak was trying to find worlds off the chain or, at least, further up the chain. He gave his sword to the eladrin who fled to Haven.

The swords serve as a backup measure to maintain the planar barriers in the event of a disruption of divine power (as happened during the fall)

Each sword needs to be in possession of a descendent of the soul’s owner. With the suppression of knowledge, each eladrin house was aligned to the blood of the 4 remaining swords.

Eladrius’ sword may still exist and 8 other swords were lost upchain.

Eladrius’ vault would contain the genealogical data as to the proper owner of each sword.

Each sword knows its proper owner. Voss is now the head of the Winter household and has access to the family vault.

The Aerie of Winter’s Journey

At the point of the Fall, the Aerie of Winter was on a mission to destroy the locus of the shadow realm in Treacher’s Folly. This was the anchor for the undead.

As the Fall happened, magic became inaccessible and the Aerie lost power. However, the fail safes  worked briefly (before also failing). This was, however, enough time for the helmsman to control the Aerie’s crash. Kostelle (Voss and Olen’s sister) was one of the casualties of the crash. She may haunt the observation deck.

The survivors of the crash moved across the plains (what are now the plain of sighs) in order to survive. Fifty years ago as magic returned (and shadow advanced) they retreated back across the plains. Many died in this retreat (becoming the pillars we encountered on the plains)

Kirkoff (one of my less incompetent students) thought he could open a portal to another world (as was done during the exodus). If he did this, the ritual would have consumed him.

It was a bit of a shock to discover that the heads of the Aerie were aware of the planar jumping. They kept this information from me even though my expertise could have aided to an incalculable amount.

Ambrielle (one of Kostelle’s companions) was from the family of Summer. She died on the retreat back across the Plain of Sighs.

Contacts were sent to Ascension after the Fall but none returned. It is likely that they were killed as being Eladrin (who were blamed for the fall)

The Control Room

After laying several of the guard to rest, we entered the control room where we encountered the ghosts of Voss and Olen’s parents. Like the guards, they were convinced that we were undead. During the battle that resulted, Voss was able to convince them that we were not, in fact, undead by using a mirror of true seeing within the control room.

The Lord and Lady believe that it is 50 years ago. At the time, undead were overrunning the Aerie. The younger members were fleeing through the portal which they had managed to activate. The Lord and Lady do not know where the portal went (they maintained this ignorance on purpose)

We have put Voss and Olen's parents to rest. The Aerie's shadow reflectrion is gone.

When we enterred the library again, the librarian reversed his notes. This would indicate that his records were corropted by the fact that the Aerie itself was reflecting a reversed view of the world

The Citadel

Now we must pass through the Hall of Heroes in order to get to the seat of power, the Citadel.

Within the Hall, old stains of blood have become fresh pools of blood. Ghosts of gladiatorial combat in the center of hall fight, cheered on by other soldier ghosts. The ghosts actually seem to represent parts of the room itself, memory of the room’s past. Upon defeat, the room faded back to its original faded state.

We moved through the Hall and into the keep on the top of the Citadel. We are coming across the remains of a battle from several decades ago (approximately 50 years).  Some of the bodies appeared to have suffered from energy drain. The timing of this battle matches approximately with when the Shadow enveloped this area.

The remains of fighting gets increasingly dense as we continue. There is sign of arcane magic having been used. This would be a sign of arcane magic in use slightly before other places we have seen. The signs of fighting reach their thickest outside the audience chamber and control room of the Aerie.

The audience chamber is guarded by the Nefleheim household guard who are ghosts. The guard reacted to us as if we were undead and attacked us on sight. The mirrors surrounding the room reflect their belief (showing us as undead and them as alive). We dispatched the guards and are preparing to enter the control room.

Ghosts of the Aerie’s past

We continue through the Aerie of winter.

Reaching where one of the primary cargo elevators was, we find that the side of the Aerie has been sheared off. Here the influences of the shadow forces upon the Aerie are most visible. There is a shadowing echo of the missing parts of the Aerie that continue. These shadows remain level (unlike the Aerie itself that is canted due to its crash).

We can see movement near the top of the Aerie.

We have chosen not to pass through the shadowy echo parts of the Aerie and are, instead taking an alternate route through the Hall of Heroes. The Hall of Heroes is what separates the martial areas of the Aerie from the University. We can hear the echo of training within the Hall.

We have skirted the Hall of Heroes to go to the Library.

Voss and Olen are worried that the spirit of their great grandfather is somewhere within the Aerie. He is the most infamous of the Nefleheim family. He impaled thousands of Goblin Natives during the conquest. He was executed as a tyrant after the war.

We are going to the Library. All of the walls show a slight shadow echo (the echo is true where the real walls are slightly askew). The Library has been ransacked but there is some sign of the books being rearranged and restacked.

Within the library a skeletal librarian sits behind a desk. Upon seeing myself, Voss, and Olen he crossed three things out in a book. The book seems to contain lists of eladrin associated with the Aerie. Older names are more crossed off while newer names are not. Rationally, it would seem to be that the names crossed off would represent Eladrin who had died. This is contradictory, however, with what we have just seen.

Levels of indirection and circle theory

A Treatise Summary by Savin Thonat

A magic circle is designed to block a creature of a certain energetic parameterization from crossing it's boundaries. Indeed, a creature of the correct parameterization cannot act upon the circle directly or take a direct action across its boundaries. So what constitutes direct action?

Let us consider the different levels of magic circle and see how the answer to this question changes.

Level 1* and level 2 circles are rudimentary circles. They do not actually block a creature at all. While they cannot act across the barrier, they can simply walk across the edge (though the resulting energy discharge would kill some, lesser, creatures) as a result, these circles actually have an indirection factor of 0

Beyond level 2, circles have ever increasing indirection factors. So what affects whether or not a creature can breach a circle? Let us examine some of the factors:

  1. Direct interaction with the circle versus action upon the circle. If a being tries to simply pass through a circle, then the power of their aura is the only relevant factor. If, on the other hand, they are attempting to act upon the circle in some way the factors are more complicated.
  2. Directness of action. Simply attempting to brush out a circle with a stick as opposed to using one’s finger does add some indirection; but it is nearly an infinitesimal amount. On the other hand, actions that involve more natural forces (pouring water near a circle for example) have significantly more indirection.
  3. Power of action. A flood is able to act more upon a circle than a bowl of water.
  4. Number of steps. Each additional step in the chain also adds indirection. However, this is a case of diminishing returns. The indirection of each step is also a factor. Knocking a bowl of water over with a stick adds virtually no additional indirection. Burning the leg of a table out to cause a bowl to fall is more significant.
  5. Additional intelligences. Having a being of a different parameterization adds a very large amount of indirection. The level of free will is also significant. Thus a dominated creature has less indirection than a creature who has been asked to break the circle.

A note of mental control: while mental control cannot be exerted across a circle's boundary, an affected creature can control a being on the same side of the circle as they are. This controlled being can then be used to disrupt the circle (assuming of course that the controlled being is not also affected by the circle). Through testing on Olen (whose parameterization is elemental unlike my own) I have proven that this works even on circles with a indirection factor of two. So why is this? Further experimentation is required but there are two possible explanations.

One possibility is that the nature of the controlled being cannot be overridden by the controller. Thus while water becomes aligned to the parameterization of the being that poured it out, a controlled being retains its original parameterization.

Alternatively, animate beings may be so complicated that they, inherently, introduce many additional levels of indirection. Unfortunately, higher level circles will be required to settle this issue.

Olen remains upset on the subject of my mental control of him. He never was interested in the advancement of magical knowledge.

  1. Chance. Additional indirection can be added by adding a random factor into the chain of events being used to break the circle.
  2. Intent. Attempting to interact with a circle reduces indirection when compared to unintentionally doing so. This also applies to the indirection added by additional intelligences.

Ultimately, this is a somewhat academic exercise. Given that I am only now creating the process for level 10 circles, it is inconceivable that circles beyond level 14 exist. The amount of indirection required for a level 10 circle is still relatively low.

*Rules: The level of a circle is the arcana roll that created it divided by 5 (rounded up)

The Worlds We Know

Ancient creation myth says that the gods tricked the primordials to help them create a universe. Then in the batters fought after its creation, the universe fragmented into many world, breaking the gods and primordials up in the process. Kansul and the demons that serve him are the remains of forces created by the Primordials to unmake the worlds. The primordials no longer guide them. Angels and devils were similarly created (but by the gods) to stop the demons. Devils stick to their original mission (though with ruthless means) while angels have left the path to try to protect the beings of individual worlds.

For countless centuries, civilization has been fleeing the march of Kansul. On Haven, an effort was made to suppress this knowledge in the hopes that it would keep the gates upstream closed. This worked for a time. The gate is open again.

1. Haven. The birth world of all members of the party except Yulia. Historical records would indicate that Haven has a natural and goblinoid alignment. When the Tecera was destroyed, goblinoid energies created the orc race in both Furlough and Haven.

2. Furlough. 1 world "down stream" from Haven. Unknown alignment. During the god wars, Furlough was losing due to the division of their pantheon. This disruption allowed draconic energies from further downstream to enter Furlough and create the dragonborn and kobold races.

3. Draconic world. 2 worlds downstream from Haven. Draconic alignment. Nothing else known.

4. Detached world. We encountered the beings from here in Barera. They can, apparently, detach further worlds. Presumably they have done this before and there are other detached worlds. Alignment unknown.

5. Calubrian world. We encountered this snake race near the coast mining residium. They escaped through a portal to another world. Archeological evidence indicates they predate Eladrin, Elven, and Human presence on Haven and that they were contemporary with the goblins. It is unclear if they fled Haven or if they originate elsewhere and have colonized Haven in the past. Alignment unknown (presumably reptilian). My current understanding of planar theory would indicate that they are either nearby on the chain or they are using whatever means the devils are to reach our world.

6. Upstream worlds. Given the Barerans and Olen's own transformation, it seems clear that as Kansu's forces consume a world, it's energies and alignment shift to elemental. As a result, the destruction of Haven's Tercera allowed these energies into Haven and created the Tiefling race. We have seen records that indicate that, in the past, several worlds actively traded with one another at once. Some of the races of these times (such as an insectoid race) have not travelled downstream and have, presumably, been consumed. It is currently unclear as to how much of a worlds original alignment reminds during the consumption process ( or indeed how long it takes, or what happens to the uncollected souls on these planes, or what remains after the consumption completes, or a multitude of other questions).

7. Are their worlds that are naturally detached from the chain? How could one find them?

Elementals

Entering through the loading docks, we encountered (and dispatched) several elementals that were corrupted by shadow.

The Aeries, of course, employed bound elementals to serve as the moving parts of their structure. In this case two doors and a pathway used for cargo transport.

Their corruption points out something that should have been obvious to me before: they are in possession of a soul. Given this, what occurs to their souls after their destruction? Indeed, what of the souls of other living things (animals and such)

The sheer volume of such unaligned souls would seem to necessitate the need for a powerful feral force in a word. Indeed, might this explain the Mother's shifting in this way? On the other hand, perhaps the force of a soul is proportional to the will of the being it came from.

Voss seems bothered by the revelation that beings of forced servitude possess souls. I'm not sure what the basis of his concern is.

Aerie of Winter

We have reached the glacier on which rests the Aerie of Winter.

The Aerie is remarkably intact. This would indicate at least a somewhat controlled landing. Indeed, one of the control stones is still visible and, apparently, active.

A mound of snow and rock leads part of the way up to the Aerie's landing docks. Near the base of this ramp are several graves. I recognize some of the names as members of the Nefleheim household staff. There are also several open grave holes that appear more recently dug

A path leads from the ramp to a nearby ice crevasse.

We have chosen to investigate the Aerie first.

Given the state of the visible control stone, I have hope that I could actually reactivate the power plant and get it off the ground.

Plain of Sighs

The Plain of Sighs is covered with scatterings of standing stones. These stones have an emotional aura of depression and apathy. With regularity, storms of uncollected souls sweep over the plain causing necromantic damage to those caught in them

For the most part, we have been able to use summoned steeds to fly above the storms. Additionally, the standing stones offer protection against the necromantic damage to those standing next to them.

At one point, however, a very large storm had enough height to force us to land. In this case, it appeared that several souls were controlling the swarm as a whole. We were able to defeat these souls and the rest dispersed. During the storm, a large ambush predator (perhaps a shadow altered toad) attacked the party and we were forced to fight a two front battle.

The standing stones appear to be people who died within the aura of another stone. While this is the metaphysical reason for their existence, it is not a fully possible theory. The stones are not clustered. As a result, they would appear to have been moved or earlier stones have been destroyed or weathered away.

To the Plain of Sighs?

I have built a powerful circle of protection against shadow around the Worldtree. The tree seems to understand the protective nature of the circle and has grown its branches to protect the circle from the elements.

As the tree grows, it will push the shadow fell back from around itself.

The shadow fell may have developed around Treacher's Folly due to uncollected evil souls. Treacher's Folly turned to necromancy centuries ago which may have drawn the souls to it until a critical mass was reached. Treacher's Folly was destroyed for this necromantic research.

Oefa believes that she knows there the Aerie of Winter is. On the other side of the Plain of Sighs is a ruin that did not used to be there. The Poxies refer to it as the Sky Ruins and worship it as a holy site.

Unfortunately, the Plain of Sighs seems to be filled with unbound souls. So many that there are actual storms caused by these souls (soul storms)

Oefa will not continue traveling with us but has given us her Map of Unseen Lands to aid us.

More on Oefa and the resistance

Oefa challenged the leadership of the church of the Father before the fall and was imprisoned during the fall. This likely saved her life as many church representatives were targeted during the uprisings.

Oefa spent 50 years studying the fall and wrote her treatise of soul collection. Upon returning to Ascension, the scriveners wiped her memory of this research.

Oefa hates undead and blames the gods for their proliferation on Haven.

Most of the resistance are followers of Urgrit (the goblin mother goddess). Urgrit seems to be a feral reflection of the Mother. Urgrit followers got their powers back much earlier than followers of Ellessial (the more civilization focused face of the Mother). Urgrit followers regained their powers approximately 40 years after the fall while those of Ellessial didn't until 35 years later (25 years ago)

The patriarchs power (the religious leader in Ascension) regained his divine powers approximately 50 years ago, as much as 10 years after Urgrit. Given the originally goblin alignment of Haven, this may have been an indication of the plane returning to a base level alignment without sentient deities to guide it.

Oefa has been fighting the undead, who have become more organized since the Lich Queen's return.

Most of Oefa's allies are Poxies (goblins who have been changed by the shadow energies of the area. They are highly territorial but hate undead. As Urgrit followers, their primary goal seems to be to preserve nature (albeit in its current shadowy form)

Amicus Meiorin

Amicus (an title meaning learned friend) Meiorin is the name of the Lich. He and Voss sparred about fashion and court standing briefly before we entered into combat.

It turns out that Meiorin's heavily decorated skull was, in fact, a separate creature. His actual skull was hidden within his rib cage. This skull regenerated damage dealt to it.

We were able to force both Meiorin and his gaudy skull to surrender.

Meiorin was acting on his own initiative to attempt to gain status in the court of Lord Duskblade, the regent of the newly ascendant Queen Felocial. He was attempting to desecrate the Mother's holy site.

Duskblade has been receiving envoys from various nations (including both Ascension and Barrera). At the moment, the court is circling those two groups and (not unexpectedly) little progress has been add by either side.

We forced Amicus Meiorin to write us a letter of introduction to the court.

I constructed two magic circles to contain Meiorin and his skull ally. Meiorin as a smaller circle within the large circle that holds the skull. The circles are within a cave which should, hopefully protect them both from discovery and from undo weathering.

I am of the opinion that we may need Meiorin as a bargaining chip at a later date. This is why the circles as opposed to simply destroying them.

Additionally, Meiorin is a Lich of some power. As a result, he is able to anchor his own soul outside of his being. This knowledge will be invaluable in the construction of a well to hold unclaimed souls.

Battlefield

We entered an old battlefield (where Treacher's Folly fought goblins)

Here we encountered cinder zombies, wights, and ghouls.

We dispatched all but a few ghouls who retreated. These we tracked to the river where we, finally, encountered the Lich.

Pedrason

Oefa suspects that the necromancer is a Lich that she has encountered before. The Pedrason is an artifact that Oefa unsuccessfully tried to keep out of this lich's hands. The Pedrason allows for a greatly accelerated creation of undead.

Oefa says that the Lich favors a gaudy and heavily decorated skull.
Oefa and Yulia are staying to guard the Wordtree while the rest of us track down the necromancer before he uses the Pedrason to bury us in undead.

Worldtree

Oefa says that a powerful undead necromancer released the ghouls and the soul eater on her so it could continue to the holy site, a worldtree like the one on mount ascension.

We are in pursuit following the tracks of additional ghouls plus skeletal footprints (presumably the necromancer)

Reaching the grove, we find that it as been corrupted by the undead energies and Ty darkness surrounding us.

Goblinoid skeletons have been pinned to various trees by ice spears and the heart tree was also pierced by similar spears. As we approached, the goblin pulled themselves from their trees and the heart tree lurched into a parody of false life.

We have dispatched this threat and Baern has planted the tree which is weakened by the energies of the shadowfell. Baern aligned the tree to the Mother's bore civilized aspects.

We have bolstered the tree with as much energy as we can.

There is still a necromancer in the vicinity

Undead

We have reached Oefa.

Oefa built a weak and amateurish circle of protection and was within it when we came upon the scene.

Several large undead (including one that was able to capture my very essence) surrounded the circle along with what appeared to be reanimated sheep.

After dispatching the undead with Oefa's help, i noticed that she had built a secondary circle around the first. This circle was the focus of a ritual that she was using to reanimate the sheep, trapping loose souls in the reanimated bodies.

While clumsy, in execution, the concept was absolutely brilliant in conception. Oefa has come up with a (albeit temporary) solution to uncollected souls. By binding them in lower powered undead, she prevents them from aggregating and potentially powering the Lich queen

The ghouls were not created by Oefa but the "soul eater" was. I believe that Oefa has stumbled across a breakthrough in soul control and storage. It is unfortunate that we had to destroy her creation. When I have the opportunity I must discuss this with her. What other soul manipulating creations has Oefa made?

Oefa lost her connection to the Father at the Fall and did not regain it for 50 years. This strained her faith and she no longer seems to be in possession of Devine powers.

Oefa believes that killing an undead releases it's soul again. As a result, a long term undead storage solution will be required to use her solution on a grand scale.

The Unburning Forest

The forest consists of trees that look both burned and frozen.
We did run into a pack of wolves that, indeed, seem to powers that affected our spiritual centers.

Crow Cage

We have come across an old an in a crow's cage.
He is missing a leg and have asked if we have one to spare. Neither myself, nor Baern can determine his nature (some of his comments do hint that he is undead, or possibly simply mad)
He does not remember how long he has been in the cage.
He told us the following things:
"To the left is the is the unburning woods. In the woods the trees are not friendly and there are shadow wolves. If the queen wolf curses you, your only hope is to pray to the gods you believe in."
"To the right are the sighing plains. The souls themselves will eat you alive."
"Past me, the road to Dunsmuir"
Voss believes that he is an emissary to the Daughter.
While I believe that the greatest research opportunity is the plain, our goal lies within the forest.

Oefa

We are trying to track down Oefa. She has been seen at the the temple of the Father with a dwarven livestock trader.
Speaking with Olef, we were told that Guile a drow Bruiser has been preventing Olef from leaving the city. Guile is also looking for Oefa and Olef has been known to supply her with large numbers of livestock.
Guile is one of the enforcers of the council (specifically a lady D'targin)
We were able to discover that Oefa was staying at the Princess and Crown inn (the sign a half elf half skeleton image)
We were able to get into her room. Within, we found evidence of research into ritual magic (specifically necromantic divine rituals). We recovered several research books on: necromancy, the nature of souls, magical locations (specifically those aligned to nature)
Oefa is clearly a researcher at heart as she has made extensive notes in the margins. She appears to be trying to fid a naturally aligned location within the zone of shadow.
She made a note that while gods affect the nature of those that worship them, the reverse is also true.
Leaving Oefa's room, we had a run in with group of drow led by Guile and a female drow. They wore rings that are half spider, half humanoid.
We have a likely location of a naturally aligned site within the shadow. While not directly on the path to Dunsmuir, it is deeper. We shall proceed there next.

Fellocial

Montigan and Lady Kim have gone to Dunsmuir (Treacher's Folly)
Fellocial (the Lich Queen) is now being worshipped as a deity in Portsmouth. Clerics of Fellocial do have divine powers. As a result, it is clear that a Thaumological Field has formed. Powers started to occur approximately 50 years ago (coinciding to the return of divine powers in Ascension and the beginning of the spread of the shadow field from Dunsmuir.
Two recent increases in divine powers of Fellocial worshippers have occurred. The first coincides with the Lich Queen's release from Mount Ascension, the second with the confrontation we witnessed between Fellocial and the existing pantheon. This would give evidence that a spontaneous Thaumological field arose (perhaps seeded by unclaimed evil souls). Upon release, Fellocial seized control of the field (the first power jump)
The second power increase may indicate that an intelligently controlled Thaumological field is more powerful when the controlling intelligence resides on another plane.
Other religions are tolerated within Portsmouth except for worship of the Mother (which has been driven underground)
The church or Fellocial, is currently divided on the true nature of undead.
- one group, sees undead as an ideal state of being. The type of undead you return as being determined by your life.
- the second, see undead as part of the circle of life, simply another step in a circle of rebirth
- the final, undead are an ultimate state of being. Everyone should be undead. This is a militant sect.
There is some missionary work for Fellocial going on.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth lies on the edge of a huge area of darkness. Within the darkness, undead occur and rise without the intervention of Necromancers.

Within Portsmouth, the residents have all been transformed by the shadow energies. This has rendered them able to see in the dark. In the case of elves and humans, it has darkened their skin while bleaching their hair white. The effect on dwarves was reversed (pale skin and black hair). Weak undead serve as laborers and porters. There are no changed creatures but these all seem to be merchants and other travelers.

While much food comes from outside Portsmouth (from fishing and trade with the coastal cities), some strangely changed crops do seem to grow within the shadow.

The Bareran diplomatic core that left Ferbin arrived at Portsmouth a while ago. They have travelled further into the shadow to attempt to establish an embassy.

Keran Duskblade (the Lich Queen’s general from the undead wars) rules in her name. We have seen the Lich Queen in the presence of the other ascended beings of this world’s pantheon. Given her power, it is possible that she has also ascended. She has certainly gained power quickly since she was released (along with Duskblade) from Mount Ascension.

The darkness  began to spread from Dunsmuir (Treacher’s Folly) around 50 years ago (the same time as magic began to return). Treacher has become a saint like figure to the undead.

Oefa (Baern’s fiancé) is leading a rebellion in the shadowed lands.

We will need to travel further into the shadow.

A small fey detour

We have decided that on our way to Portsmouth, we will make a stop in one of the feral regions dominated by the fey creatures. These creatures are currently aligned with Ascension against Berera. Given what we have encountered, there are clearly demonic forces working on the Ascension side. They summoned a large corrupting force in an attempt to usurp a huge nature spirit.

On the way, we were forced to fight a mated pair of displacer beasts who were chasing a goblin we previously encountered, Running Fox. Additionally, we encountered a large group of Apes we were forced to deal with.

Upon reaching the fey court, we talked to Greybeard and the fey council. It was split on three lines; those who wished to stay allied to Ascension, those who wanted to turn all of their efforts against the undead, and those who wished to remain neutral for the time being.

We managed to convince the council to remain neutral (at least until we gathered more info from the undead regions).

Infornations and Musings

Tercera are often referred to as the third or the third pillar of divinity in the ancient language. Tecera serve as the bridge between the being and the land. They allow someone to more fully act upon an area

Would it be possible to create a vessel that could capture the souls of the dead not otherwise claimed by a god? This would alleviate the issues (such as natural undead) caused by the collection of these souls. This vessel would contain immense amounts of power.

This does raise an interesting question, however. Up chain, it appears that the gods were effectively “harvested” of their power to be used to uplift the gods of Haven (and Peter Kovak in the case of Furlough). It is highly unlikely that all (or even most) of the beings in the previous words were able to flee Kansul. Given the influencing power of souls (as witnessed in the effect on the various fragments of Peter Kovak) it is unlikely that the forces of Kansul are absorbing the souls of the good within the consumed worlds. With no gods to collect their souls either, are these souls coalescing into beings of their own or potentially manifesting in natural phenomenon? Might there be proto-gods that have formed in these worlds?

The demons were attempting to co-opt the goblin gods (through beings such as the Lord of teeth)

The Bareran’s credit Eladrius for stopping them from going completely feral as the demonic energies turned them into Tieflings. While he was supposedly not around, he setup a system to allow them to maintain themselves during the troubles. This did not work for the halflings. Halfling affected by the energies have gone completely feral.

Barera is the site of entry into Haven. It is also the focus of the circle designed to keep the forces of Kansul from coming through. Thus the arcane banging is, in fact, Kansul’s forces attempting to bring down this barrier. The Barerans seem aware of this. They have been strengthening their defenses towards the interior of the city, effectively turning their defenses inside out.

The devils are willing to remove Haven from the chain. The result would, presumably, result in Furlough becoming directly connected to Kansul controlled worlds. Would it, instead, be possible to close the loop on the Kansul worlds?  This would cut them off from the Haven, Furlough, and whatever worlds lie further down chain. Though this does raise the question of whether the chain is a loop or a line. If a loop, then there is an additional front potentially waiting to open.

The Possibility is a Tercera aligned to the chaotic powers of the Far Realm. It would be possible to realign it to the civilizing side of the Mother by:

  1. Having the best stone mason in carve the stone into a building block
  2. Performing 7 baptisms upon the stone
  3. Have the stone in the presence of one birth and at the death of an wise elder.
  4. Using the stone as  a cornerstone in a Mother aligned building
Gnomes are the interaction of fey energies with halflings.
